Mr. Baskut Tuncak served as Special Rapporteur on “the human rights implications of … hazardous substances and wastes” from August 2014 to July 2020 for the UN Human Rights Council.
Baskut is an international lawyer, specializing in laws and policies on the management of toxic chemicals and pollution. He is the founding director of Common Rights, a multidisciplinary advisory firm on environmental health, sustainable development and human rights. Prior to his legal career, he worked as a synthetic chemist with various chemical and biotechnology companies. He has served in various advisory roles to both governmental and non-governmental initiatives.
